Health Insurance Subsidy
In December 2007, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) was informed that the health insurance subsidy ($225) provided for all graduate assistants was in jeopardy because of inadequate funding. This came as a surprise to us and seemed to conflict with the sentiment expressed by President Sorensen when we met with him in October 2007.
The GSA, in an effort to address this problem met and sent letters with various members of the university community between January and March 2008. The GSA maintains the university should provide 100% subsidy to all graduate assistants (who are employees) and improve the quality of health insurance so as to reflect the population of graduate students enrolled and their needs.
The documents attached are an attempt to memorialize the events leading up to the current state of the health insurance subsidy.
