"Proposal: Given the desire to "publicize [dissertation] defenses and increase their visibility in our research intensive university" (recommended by USC Research Office a few weeks ago), and given the need to get accurate information for the doctoral hooding ceremony program well in advance of graduation, the Graduate School proposes to revise its current paper form used to provide hooding ceremony information and currently turned in along with the dissertation. The new form, a fillable pdf form, will include information about the student's degree, major field, dissertation title, hometown, and major professor, as previously. But it will also include the date, time, and location of the dissertation defense, along with a dissertation abstract, and be submitted two weeks before the defense. This form (G-DDA Dissertation Defense Announcement) will allow the Grad School to post information about all doctoral defenses on the website, and will enable the timely production of a more accurate doctoral hooding ceremony program."
