Summer enrollment for graduate assistants
The ACAF 4.00 policy statement in the University Policies and Procedures stipulates that
graduate assistants must enroll for at least one hour during the summer term(s) in which they are appointed.
If graduate assistants are not enrolled for a summer term in which they are hired, then they are classed as
part-time hourly employees and FICA is deducted at a rate of 7.65%. The linked document provides a fuller
comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of enrollment/non-enrollment during the summer term.
